It's amazing how many beautiful sunny days we experience on Maui.  Yesterday was just a stellar sunny day.  My daughter in law manages Chico's in Wailea, and was slammed with holiday shoppers.  For my self, it was just to nice of a day to miss out on a morning session at the beach,  Today the trade winds turned a little north, bringing a cooler breeze and a much needed rain to the north shore and town. Thirty six years on Maui, Experience that makes a difference!

The winter season is kicking in Maui.  This is the time of year that the migration of private jets, landing in Kahului airport. During Thanksgiving they are in full flight.  We also are experiencing a lot more visitors, shopping at The Shops at Wailea.  Around dinner time there is another migration from the hotels to dine at Tommy Bahama's, and Ruth Chris Steak house.  Its funny how people move groups.

  During the twiglight hours, you see another migration of visitors to enjoy the evening sunsets.  The sunsets look like a master piece painted by Van Gough.  People line the beaches with their camera's, and a few with their paint brushes. 

So we are in full winter migration of the snowbirds for winter on Maui.  Hope you can make it. If you have any Maui real estate questions, please give ma a call.

Last night, the news was saying that the winds were going to blow, 10 to 20 miles an hour.  Winter is here on Maui.  I woke up to early, the trade winds were just whipping up to 35 mph.  We have been experiencing, just a beautiful fall.  Well winter has settled in, and most likely the rain will follow on the North Shore.  I was heading to Kahului town and I had my trusty camera with me.

I was driving pass the Baldwin Estate, the Baldwins where early missionarys to Maui.  This is one of many homes that they built in the early, and late 1800's.  This estate is located in Haiku, Maui, on 25 acres.

Here is another island Haiku Home, on two acres of land.

I was driving pass Hookipa Beach Park.  It was way to windy for surfing, but a great day for those loving a really windy day.  The winds were actually really strong today.

I was getting a kick out of watching the tourist.  Everyone loves to watch the surf.  I could not resist taking their picture.  It's fun to be on vacation, and it was evident that they were having a great time.

Even on super windy days, it has this beauty that is wild and majestic.  If you look up the coast in this shot, that is were I am headed.  To have a look at Kanaha Beach Park.  Just maybe the wind is not out of control.

Well what do you know, the wind was firing.  My sail was to big, so I settled for talking to the crew.  A couple of my friends just arrive from Aspen.  What I really like about windsurfing, is you meet people from all over the world.  They are pretty much committed, returning each year.  Maui is the wind surfing capital of the world.  It is also a great place to have board meetings.

These kids, were having a great time on the beach.  Some times you see kids around this age, just ripping out in the water sailing.

This guy from Switzerland headed out, and was back on the beach re-rigging a smaller sail.  So I hope you enjoy, a little bit of our life on the North Shore of Maui.  Did I mention that we also have great food in Paia town.  So your next trip to Maui, make sure to visit the North Shore.  Check with Steve for North Shore, and Haiku Maui homes for sale.

I work in Wailea, Maui, and have the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting buyers/ tire kickers. Okay I've heard this before. I am going to wait till next year when the market really tanks. I had a client from Canada come in today and say the exact same thing; I am waiting till next year.  Another quote, I hear is real estate is safer long term than Wall St.  Here is my favorite, cash is king.  Well show me the money!  What I am seeing is in Maui, if you are paying attention there are some great buys out there.

I have seen the different cycles through the last 36 years in Maui.  If you were speculating in the real estate market and got caught with a full beck in your hands you are bumming.  So at what point do you break from the pack, and start investing in real estate for down the road. Everyone involved is ready to bend over backwards to make it possible for you to buy your dream home.  It is important to remember that the real estate market runs in cycles, and conditions can change without a lot of warning. The market was just going through the roof and now prices have drop. 

I remember when Makena Surf Condos, were selling for $189,000, now they start around $2,500,000 and up.  There is an old saying what goes up must come down and go up again.  If you are looking for homes for sale, in Kula, Haiku, and Upcountry Maui.  Check these links for active Upcountry listings.

Are we going to return to the times of Jimmy Carter. If the banks don't have money to lend, then what?  In the old days business took place with trading something that represent value.  Maybe a couple of pigs to repair the wagon.  We have moved on from paying your dentist with eggs, and a side of ham.  So if lenders tighten up what are our options. 

To start with, a lot of owners do have equity in their properties.  I remember the second piece of property I bought in Maui, was an agreement of sale.  I was able to put 20% down and use my cash to build my home with.  The seller was happy to receive the 20% in cash and interest only till I refinanced my completed project.  With interest that you can receive with your money sitting in the bank, Maybe you become the bank with a Purchase Money Mortgage, and you collect the interest.  I am thinking we need to be thinking outside the box.  So just maybe this will be a winning factor for buyers and sellers.

If you are looking in Kihei Maui, for a great condo complex?  You might consider Maui Parkshore.  The location is what I really like about this place.  Yes, it does have a great pool, and barbeque area.  The strong points is location, location, location.  From your Lanai you can enjoy beautiful sunsets from across the street.  Located right across the street is Kamaole Beach Park III.  This is one of, Kihei, Maui's finest beaches.

We are experiencing fantastic weather on Maui, right now.  I love Kona winds, which bring off shore winds for the surf.  The last couple days have been excellent at Hookipa Beach Park.  The waves were bigger yesterday, but the waves were happening.  I had to be in Wailea, for work at 10am.  So I was up at 6am, on the road with a hot cup of coffee.  Early morning surf check, signs are good and I am out there.

This is a shot I took of the crowd getting caught by a set.

It was just a beautiful day out in the surf.

All good things have to come to an end.  Time to head to Wailea and get to work.  One thing about living in Hawaii is the lifestyle that we are allowed to live.  Out in the line up you might be surfing with a judge, maybe your insurance agent.  Eli with Central Pacific, is a loan officer is a regular in the line up.  Well time to wrap it up and call it a day.  For Maui real estate check this link.

Vans Triple Crown of Surfing

This is the Super Bowl of surfing starting on the North Shore of Oahu.  The first jewel of the crown is on today at Haleiwa Beach Park.  Last year produced 8 to 12 ft surf.  Roy Powers was last year's winner at Haleiwa.  The Reef Hawaiian Pro is under way in heavy surf today.  The next event will be at Sunset Beach for the second jewel of the crown.  The last jewel of the crown is at Pipeline.  This is a WCT event which features the best surfers in the world.  If you want to watch the action on line.  Then go to http://reef.wetsand.com or go to http://triplecrownofsurfing.com .  The live action is worth watching.  We are two hours behind California.

I am always reading how Wailea Maui beaches area ranked top in the world.  Living on Maui I know that we have incredible beaches on the island.  As I was looking out the window I noticed what a great day it was.  We have been experiencing fantastic weather this fall.  So I thought I would grab my camera and take a short walk down to the water.

This is what it was looking like today.

I really had a hard time not bailing work, change into my trunks and hitting the water.  It is just a golden day and people were really enjoying themselves.

  The news is looking good for visitors arriving to Maui.   The word is Kihei, Maui condominiums are getting booked and the winter season is looking great.  With all the negative press on the economy people are still carrying on with their lives.  The hotels in Wailea are experiencing large group bookings.  As I mentioned The Shops at Wailea Mall is getting busy.  So after a slump through out summer it is a welcome site to see things back to normal.

Experience that makes a difference

Okay I think we all agree that you can't work all the time.  Some of my days off from working in Wailea fall during the week.  As Realtors we have random working hours.  So today it was a beautiful day on Maui's Northshore.  I started the day with a drive down to Spreckelsville Beach with my wife Ivy.  She took off for a walk down the beach and I jumped on my standup surfboard to catch a few waves.  The swell has not filled in yet but is due to build during the day.  So later I headed to Haiku to the Goya surf and windsurf shop to order a new surfboard.  a 6'6" fish surf board.

 This is Keith who is shaping my new board with the deposit. Keith is also a top pro windsurfer and has traveler the world competing.  Francisco and Laulo Goya are brothers that own the shop.  Francisco is a former World Champ and a really nice guy.

This is Laulo, they are originally from South America.  Laulo went to high school with my son so I get the preferred Dad treatment from these guys. If you are looking for state of the art windsurf or surfing gear check them out in the Haiku cannery.

I was talking to this visiting pro windsurfer from the Cannary Islands off Africa. She was sharing how the waves are great there, but it is not beautiful like on Maui.

So after getting help  from Keith and laulo on a different fin on my sail board I am off to Kanaha Beach for an afternoon wind surf session.

There are a lot of really hot women that windsurf.  You meet people here from all over the world.

This girl is getting ready to water start.  Waiting for her sails to fill and lift her out of the water.

Time to call it a day.  I love getting in the water and shaking off work.  In Hawaii we have great weather and the ocean is always inviting you to come and enjoy the water. So back to work tomorrow, but there is always time to get a session in before or after work. Live Maui, Love Maui!

Everyone loves Maui for different reasons.  As well as why people move here in the first place.  Maui is so diverse and has so many different options.  I know when I was 19 and moved to Maui it was to surf and live the island life. Now that I have raised a family of four and just about a grandfather.  Maui still holds the diversity that makes me thankful for living here.

For some the Upcountry life is what pulls them to Maui.  Maybe you are into horses or just like cooler climate of Kula Maui.  You will find beautiful Kula Maui homes for sale offering scenic ocean views and rolling hills. 

Upcountry Maui also draws the artist community with art classes offered at the Hui No'eau Art Center.  Then there is Art Maui which features Maui's top artist at The Maui Arts & Cultural Center.  My wife has had her art work on display there. 

Maui also draws people here for healthy living.  We have Yoga centers, the Dragon's Den in Makawao for herbs and acupuncture treatments.  Makwao also has many art studios and fine restaurants for your taste buds.

The north shore of Maui draws people that love the beach.  You will discover an underground network of pro waterman.  Wind Surfing past and present world champions windsurfers and now kite boarders.  Then there is the international tow-surfing crowd and wana be's. Then there is the surf community my people.  Even know I took up windsurfing and having a blast surfing is my first love.  The north shore draws people from South America, Canada, Japan and Europe.  They come here to enjoy the warm water, wind and surf. You meet interesting people on Maui from all over the world.

Then there are the resort areas like Lahaina and Kapaulua.  South Maui is closer to home and I work In Wailea.  South Maui is a destination that brings people back year after year.  I meet people that have been coming here since the early 70's. 

People from the mainland really get into warm sunny days and amazing beaches.  Wailea and Makena have some of the top beaches in the world.  Driving into Wailea offers a stunning presence of tropical landscape streets and quality developments.  This is where you go to be pampered and work on your tan.  It also offers some of the finest golf courses in the world. I was thinking what a beautiful winter afternoon as I look out over the afternoon ocean views at Wailea Beach Villas.

I love this place, it is located right in front of The Shops At Wailea and next to The Grand Wailea Hotel and Spa. There are 98 units with two and three story villas close to the beach.
