  While there is a major real estate meltdown in the mainland, Maui does have a build up of inventory, which leads to motivated sellers.  What we are seeing is some incredible deals coming on-line.  I like Kauhale Makai, unit #135, priced at $555,000 for oceanfront.

Maui Banyans, located right across from Kamaole Beach Park, is an island favorite.  Here is a new listing for a 2 bedroom unit that is beautifully decorated.  The price is listed at $599K.

"2009 Ecomony" might not be as bad as the media is saying!

I was reading this morning on MSN about the economy.  They were saying that it might not be as bad as the media is painting.  They stated five reason why!

1. Plunging oil prices, more money in your pocket.

2.  Falling mortgage rates.

3. Actions by Federal Reserve, They say they will do anything to strengthen the economy.

4.  Obama's Stimulus Package to get people back to work.

5. America's deep fundamental hard working work ethics.  They see United States as the most competitive economy in the world.

So there is not all bad news, there is a ray of sunshine.

Christmas Season is here on Maui!

We all been waiting for the holiday season to begin.  For many on Maui, it's great for different reasons.  For the traveler to escape the winter weather, with family, and get away from work.  The weather has been beautiful, and the beaches busy with sun worshipers getting some rays, and enjoying the warm ocean. 

The shop owners and people that work in the hotels,shops, and restaurants love being busy. 

 So it is a winner for everyone.  The real estate market has been slow.  We are starting to see some pretty good deals on the market.  Talking to prospective buyers, they are feeling that it's time to start looking a little more serious at the market.  I do think this winter season is going to pick up. Steve's Maui Holiday Sweet Potatoes Casserole!

Island Flavor , Steve's Holiday Sweet Potatoes!   This year I have been working a lot in my organic garden.  We all need a life, this is one of the things I love to do is garden.  So here is my garden favorite!



 Steve's Holiday Sweet Potatoes Casserole!
 
Okay, so you're asking can you really cook.  Well, I really enjoy fresh greens out of my garden.  It has led to a few creative dishes that I like. So here is my Holiday Sweet Potatoes Casserole.
 
1. First you need fresh yams, boil till they are half cooked.  Use a fork to check, they should slip out pretty easy.  Dice into chunks, or boil so you can mash.
2. Next is fresh basil for a little spice in your potatoes.
3.  A little coconut milk.  I use fresh coconuts out of my yard, can coconut juice will work.
4.  Raisins
5.  A pinch of garlic.
6.  Pineapple chunks from can or local pineapple fields.  Make sure you check with the farmer first.
 
There is two ways you can serve this as mash potatoes, or finely chopped in a casserole and baked.

Going Green on Maui!

This year hopefully is changing the way we think, and live.  With the economic climate, and high gas prices we were experiencing we had to change.  The auto industry is getting a major wake-up call.  Okay gas is cheap now, but we know that will change.  Okay I sold my gas guzzler this year, and I am getting 27 miles per gallon with my Passat.  So my whole philosophy is to change the way I work, and live.

So this is my green campaign, I have been hauling compost, and manure.  I decided to grow my own organic food and save a lot of money, and get organic untreated food.  It is a paradigm shift.  Actually I have been gardening most of my adult life.  So it was a natural transition, I built these redwood boxes, to eliminated weeds.

What did it was tomatoes up to $6lb, give me a break!

I built four raise beds boxes, with two more to go. I just put in a new bed of sweet potatoes.

Bananas, a great food, smoothies, morning bowl of oatmeal.  I am increasing my Banana patch and Papaya's so I can give food away.  It is part of my project.  What is great about gardening it's is a win-win.  Your out doors, exercise, and bountiful harvest.

When I am  done I will have 25 Papaya trees in the grownd.  They are great for trading, and give to all your friends.

I threw a few strawberries in for breakfast.

This is Duke my daughters dog,  He loves it when I am working in the garden, because he has some one to throw his ball all day. So there you go, my next adventure is off the grid power.  I will keep you up-dated.  So we do have options, and for me adjusting the way I live is actually become a fun thing to do.  From gardening, it has brought me to the kitchen.  I bought a few cook books on healthy cooking.  So it's a winner all around.  So what does this have to do with Maui real estate, this is just part of the journey.  We can use what ever resources we have and enjoy a better quality of life.  You might be in a condos, and there are books written on Lanai gardening.  So I hope this might be encouraging to you to explore your options in a changing world.

Maui Beaches, A Cure For Cold Winters!

Talking to my friend in Colorado, winter has set in.  He was saying that it is 5 degrees, with 50 hour winds.  Okay Rocky mountain high in the winter sounds cold if you are not snowboarding to me.  Northern Calif is in the 30's, call me crazy, but I am feeling pretty lucky to enjoy some of Maui finest beaches in the world.

 

I know we are in a slow market, but because of our perfect weather and incredible beaches.  People just love it here.

People of all ages love to get into the water.

Even the dogs and Tutu's love the action.

Wailuku Maui Sales Report

As you can see from this sales report, Wailuku, Maui has been busy from July of this year.  Wailuku being centrally located is very convenient to town, and easy access to Kihei, and Lahaina.  Wailuku also offers cooler weather than Kahului, and some fantastic ocean views.  The average sale price is actually higher than this report staes, because of Spencer Homes, has closed a large number of low-cost housing.  The Spencer Family has been a blessing to the community providing low cost housing to Maui for years.  So let me know if you have any interest in Wailuku Maui homes for sale.  You can also search my site at www.nickensmaui.com to view homes currently listed.

I was working at the Hoolei sales office, and I thought perhaps I would shoot some photos of a couple of my favorite units.  Here is unit C-5, which has amazing ocean views, and beautifully furnished.
