My son is getting married this week end on Maui

Okay I am a proud Papa. My oldest son Micah is getting married this weekend.

This a Maui boy born and raised. He has been a pro-surfer most of his adult life. He has traveled all over the world and surf some pretty scary waves. My other son Nate

and daughter flew in last night from Calif for the event. I am so glad to have my family together.  The first thing I am going to do after this cup of coffee is kick my boys out of bed and head down to Hookipa Beach park  for a morning surf.

I was once told by a good friend that passed away that a rich man is a person that is blessed with a great family. So this morning I am feeling pretty blessed. My quiver is being expanded with a beautiful new daughter in law. Well gotta go hit the water and then off to work.

I am sitting on the Super Ferry heading home to Maui. We are passing by Honolulu as I am typing as we pass by Diamond Head.  The sun is rising over Diamond Head and it is another Brilliant day in paradise. My journey started some months back when I ask Active Rains opinion on what car they liked for fuel efficiency.  I was driving my VW Toureg from Haiku to Wailea every day.  Gas prices are $4.59 gallon on Maui.  With oil prices dropping they haven't drop gas prices on Maui. 

So after gathering information on a smaller more fuel efficient car with comfort for my clients.  I came up with another VW the Passat.  Getting up to 30 miles a gallon and enjoying a luxury ride.   So I threw caution to the wind and sold my Toureg.  That morning I check Craig's list for Oahu and found my car.

  It was fate. So I flew over to Oahu and purchased my new energy efficient car.  I am rethinking these days my strategies of doing life.  The world has changed as we know it.  Cost of fuel is changing the way we do business .  We have had to change the way we drive.  With the housing crisis it has affected the whole nation.  From the Realtor, to the homeowner and the people that make a living from the visitor industry.  If gas wasn't enough of a problem we have a Hugh federal debt which has caused the dollar to slide. So with the housing market sliding, gas prices and the federal debt we are living in different times.  So with changing times like Dylan said, For times they are a changing. 

  So back to the Superferry.  I am enjoying the beautiful blue skies with Molokai in the distance.  I am heading back to Maui.  But it is not business as usual.  The world has changed and the way we do business and live is changing.  Change is okay if you recognize the climate around you is different. If you want to read a cool book, Who moved the cheese. It's is about a group of mice and how their world was change when the cheese was moved.  It came down to how each mouse dealt with change. Very thought provoking book. So back to Maui with my new fuel efficient car. One item checked off the list.  I am all about thinking outside the box.  I really enjoy the conversation with AR.  There is a lot of Bla, Bla, Bla which I am guilty of some times.  But if we are listening there are a few jewels that members share that can affect your life in a positive way.  So keep listening it will affect your reality. Maui Financial update

 

 

 

Maui financial update report from the Maui news.   A new state economic forecast downplays the long-term impact of recent layoffs and bankruptcies.

The report reduces economic expectations for the fiscal year that began July 1 from 2 percent growth to 1 percent but sees better years ahead.

''Some people are panicking, but the numbers aren't that bad,'' said Pearl Imada Iboshi, state economist, noting that economic trends go through cycles. She said recent developments are a shock but do not portend the collapse of the island economy.

Many people have been laid off from jobs in the state this year as gas prices soar and push other costs up throughout the island economy.

Iboshi points to good news in recent weeks, such as the decline in crude oil prices.

''I really believe that over the longer term that people will not give up traveling and vacationing,''

Olympic Champion teaches us a lesson !

I know everyone has been following the Olympics.  They have been amazing from opening ceremony's to Michael Phelps to the women's volleyball.  There is a sixteen year old girl who in my mind is a real champion.  Shawn Johnson who competes in gymnastics.  At home and in the world events this girl just kills it. She was a gold medal favorite going into the Olympics.  The thing is she kept making little errors and kept ending up with Silver medals.

So how did she handle not getting the Gold. Her attitude is something we need to look at real close. Under pressure she look for the silver lining in the events.  Her attitude was I am here at the Olympics and I am going to enjoy every moment. Also she mention that there was something to be learned from her situation.  So she just keep on smiling and not getting down.

She purpose under adversity and in the final event on the balance beam she won a Gold Medal giving it her best performance. She said she would not trade her silver medal because of what she learned about her self.  What an awesome human being. I can look  at the housing market and sit down and cry or kick and have a fit.  This young lady choose the higher road and in the end got the Gold She desired. Above that she showed the world a more Noble side of her that is a real champion.

Looking a head at traveling to Maui Hawaii

 

This summer has been the slowest as far as tourist coming to Maui.  With Aloha Airlines calling it quits and ATA Airlines folding it left a Hugh void.  Driving through the airport on the way to windsurf this summer I notice that it's been the slowest since any time I can remember.  One thing I do detect is a little change in the air.  The dollar is gaining strength against the Euro and the Pound. 

That also helps bring down the cost of oil.  So that should directly affect the price of jet fuel.  Everything is connected, so with cheaper jet fuel airline tickets are coming down to a reasonable price. Already places like the Four-Seasons are booked and the staff is working hard.  So I am optimistic that this is going to get people out flying again.  Most likely travelers will find some great hotel rates to match cheaper airline tickets.  So what do you have to lose?  Buy a couple tickets and come to Maui this fall. it is a great time of year during the fall season.

The Dollar is Back

The Dollar is Back!

 

The dollar is back as global market fears rise.  The Euro was said to be 30% over valued and now we are seeing the rest of the world markets looking to the dollar for a safe place.  With the rise of the dollar we are seeing oil per barrel dropping to $113 barrel.  Haven't seen the effects of cheaper oil in Maui. Motivated by a stronger dollar, foreign markets look to dollar as the Pound and the Euro are slipping.

So how will this affect the US housing market, we will see.  For the foreign buyer his cash becomes a little weaker as the dollar gains momentum.  So this is a good time for foreign buyers to step up to the plate for Maui real estate or other business or vacation destination. With the demand in the US for cutting back on gasoline and conserving energy there is a lesser demand for oil.  So we will see how this all shakes out in the days to come.  I am hoping this will be a positive gain for housing market.  The rising dollar will bring down the cost of imports to this country. This hopefully will chill out oil spectators as the price of oil cools off. This is a great time with election to put pressure on our elective officials to help makes us energy sufficient. Increase wind, solar and drilling our own oil so that we are not dependent on foreign oil.
