What a beautiful day today.  The skies were clear today and no wind.  Perfect way to start the day with a morning session in the surf. This is Hookipa Beach Park, where I had a great session this morning.  This is also a great windsurfing spot, they hold world events yearly here.

These guys were just finishing up a morning session of fishing at the point.

The coast on Maui offers so many different looks.  Lahaina, the reefs are in closer and you get more of a beach town feeling.  Kihei and Wailea and more resort, but they have some incredible beaches.

I have always loved the clouds in Hawaii.  I remember when I first came here in the early 70's, I was always amazed by the cloud formations.

I love the sugar cane. Maui is the only island left with sugar cane.  When it is gone it will be a sad day.  I love driving by the fields of acres and acres of cane fields.

I was really in the mood to try to capture color today.  I found these Royal Palms to be a great subject.  So there you go.  This is my Sunday on Maui, surfing great waves, cup of coffee and a photo shoot on the road.  Maui offers so many interesting options to shoot.  The island is diverse, and changes from desert to tropical, and then the different elevation offer different climates.  Everyone has their favorite part of Maui.  That is the fun part, to discover for your self a little bit of Maui.

The media loves to spin drama.  The more drama, the more people get suck in and the wheels just keep spinning.  What does the future hold for the stock market and real estate.  Is it really bad, and are we in a nose dive driven by bad news.  One thing I always remember in the last down market was how agents were saying its over, we will never come back.  Guess what it did!.  But things are so bad, okay it's not good.  During the 70's and 80's down market, unemployment was higher than it is now.  Also in the 80's the stock market took a steeper drop.  Okay I would like to do a little spinning of my own.  The stock market has a blue light special going on, and Real Estate hasn't look this good in years.  Rates are below 5%, and for first time home buyers are getting tax credits from uncle.  Did I mention that prices are at a all time low.  So if you are waiting for a sign from the spin masters of media to give you the thumbs up, you might be missing an opportunity.

Everyone can come up with their own ten reasons why they love Maui?  So here are my top ten things that I love about Maui.

1.  Would have to be the surf, that is why I came to Hawaii when I was 19yrs.

2.  Is I found my wife and raised a family on Maui.       .

3. I love the people in Hawaii,  The local culture and visitors a like.

4. I love driving by the north shore, you never know what your going to get.  Sometimes giant surf, then other times rainbows.

5. Sunsets

6. The Flowers are amazing in Hawaii

7.  Every thing grow in Hawaii.  I really enjoy gardening and growing things..

8. I like the kids of Hawaii.  Hawaii breeds more of a free spirit, with a shot of aloha. 

9. Water sports, these days everone is getting into the action.  Stand up paddleing has become very popular, every one is doing it.

10. Would have to be great beaches. Wailea, Kihei and the north shore take your pick, it's all good.

So there you go, my top ten picks for Maui.  I did leave out food, I love local hawaiian grinds and eating in Paia Town, excellent food.  So if your looking to live in Maui, you will discover your own reasons for calling Maui home.

The last couple days in Haiku Maui have just been beautiful.  I been digging in my garden, getting the soil

ready for spring planting.  I hope you enjoy the photos.

This morning was amazing.  I woke up at 5am and put on the coffee. I looked out side and the sun was slowly lighting the horizon.  The skies were clear and the wind had died.  I have been thinking how lucky we are living in the Hawaiian islands, living on one of the best places on the planet!  This is what I love about Maui's Northshore on mornings like this.  So I threw my surfboard in my truck and headed down to Hookipa Beach.  Five minutes and I am there and waxing up.  Its still early, and just the dawn patrol crowd is out.

As I am paddling out, I notice that there is another local in the line up.  A Hawaiian monk seal.  He is just hanging out in the line up having a great old time.  My buddy swims up, he was bodysurfing, and I point out our seal friend in the line up.  He was hoping the seal would leave him alone,  you don't need a frisky seal.  My son was down at the point tearing up the surf, and I was hanging with friends exchanging waves in the line up.

So after two hours of surf, time to get ready to head to Wailea to the office.  As I was driving to work, I was thinking how Maui has been a good place to raise my family, and grow old with people that have been bless living here also.  Maui is a magical place, it has a way of attracting people looking for the island lifestyle and getting off the tread mill.  If you would like more information on Maui Northshore real estate, or other area's in Maui. To under stand what is happening in the Maui real estate market, you need to get an over all view of the national market.  I am first of all not an expert on the economy.  I do have eyes and ears to get a feel what is going on around the market.  If you were to read MSN.com this morning, their economist was saying we are possibly close or at the bottom.  On a positive note, they also said sales are up in certain markets. 

People are taking advantage of the $8,000 first time home buyer federal tax credit available to 2010.  They reported that the housing sales index was up 5%.  Interest rates are looking pretty good for a 30 year loan, that is a strong motivation for buyers.  I am also noticing activity with buyers getting into position to take advantage of large inventory's of real estate.  This month being the slow time of the year, pending escrows are actually on the rise.  So are we bouncing back, I don't think so, but the savvy buyer knows that prices and interest rates have not been this good in over five years.  So if you happen to be looking for Maui real estate, drop me a line.

 I love the climate in Kula Maui, or as some call it Up-Country Maui.  I was showing property up there yesterday and I found a few jewels.  This one home had the perfect setting, with a beautiful gulch on one side for privacy and a perfect back drop.  The owner of this beautiful home really captured the essences of this property.

Kula Maui Real Estate

There is some amazing country in Up-Country Maui.  Years ago I lived in Kula before there was to many night lights on the crater.  Kula was a quiet place in the country and like all unique beautiful places, they become discovered.  So the secret has been out for a while now.  That the lead ward side of Haleakala Crater offers a break from the tradewinds and rain of the northshore of Maui.
