It's Sunday morning on Maui, and I am working through my second cup of coffee.  Sunday is a family day on Maui, a lot like other places people get out and enjoy the day off.  Well today I am working this afternoon at the Wailea Office.  So I am making the best of it.  I already played ball with my daughters dog, Duke.  I water my garden, new lettuce coming up, and my papayas are finally ready to start harvesting.

There is a south swell pumping so I thought I would head out to Makena and surf a spot called the Dumps before work.  Yesterday it was well over head, so before heading into the office I am going to hopefully catch some good waves.  So there you go,  I hope you are having a great Sunday.

The Picasso of The Pacific, Avi Kiriaty Maui Artist!

I was wanting to feature Avi Kiriaty for a long time.  Avi is a local artist on Maui's Northshore.  He is originally from Israel and has lived all over the south Pacific.  I have had the pleasure of being friends with Avi on Maui.  You usually find him hanging out at Anthony's Coffee shop in the morning or walking on Baldwin Beach.

His following of people that adore his work range from movie stars and CEO's.  In my opinion he is walking in the shoes of the famous French painter Gauguin with his south pacific art.

The Northshore of Maui is set a part from the rest of the island.  It has a small beach town feeling about it.  When I first came to Northshore you could walk down Hana Hwy in the middle of the road and there was no traffic.  You might find the owner of Charlie's restaurant famous Great Dane laying in the middle of the road.

These days Paia Maui has become a very international destination from people all over the world.  Paia town, was an old plantation town in the sugar cane and pineapple era.  It is now a booming beach town.  Paia offers locals and travelers a like a place to stop and enjoy the day.  Many mornings after a surf we meet in Anthony's Coffee for a cup of hot java and talk story.
