It's the end of August on Maui.  Summer on Maui has been beautiful, with breezy sunny days and warm water. Yesterday on Maui's North Shore we had our first taste of winter.  We had our first early season winter north swell.  Waves heights were over head.  It was a little disorganized swell, but a swell is a swell.

Today cleaned up a bit and everyone was out enjoying the surf.  So I hope this is a sign of good surf for us all this winter. Winter time for my family is game time.  My son will be out towing the outer reefs, actually I might give it a go this winter.  We have been a surfing family on Maui.  Both my sons are rippers and I am still an avid surfer/windsurfer.  So winter will bring new challenges as it does each season. My daughter in law was visiting, so I took the morning off to go to the beach.  She is pregnant so surfing was out of the question.  So we settled for stand up paddling.

This is my wife in the middle and my daughter in law on the right and a friend who is an ex-world champion windsurfer. Just then the fire truck pulls up and the crew came out to train. They spend time running and swimming to stay in shape.  I surf with a lot of these guys, and one of them is a good buddy of mine.

As you can see it was a great day to be training on the beach.

So I offered them my boards, Fireman Craig jumps right on it being an experienced waterman.  Craig, surfs, windsurfs and snowboards with me a lot.  In the line up surfing you have police officers, fireman, doctors, construction worker and Realtors out in the water.

This fireman had never been on a board before, I missed some great shots of him up side down.

When you are in trouble, you really want these guys around.  They put their lives on the line daily and keep us all safe.  So it was a great day hanging out with the guys.  They had to get back to work and so did I.

Driving by the Paia Fire Station their truck had not return, we had a lot of fun, it was a good on Maui.

I love calling the Northshore of Maui my home.  My friend lives above the famous break called Jaws.  This area is known as Haiku, Maui.  I just happen to have my camera with me and was able to capture a few great shots.

Pretty much on any given day there is an amazing number of beautiful beaches on Maui.  You can ride out to Hana, to black sand beaches with a rough and wild feel of old Hawaii.  On the west side from Kaanapali to Kapalua you will discover beautiful beaches and private coves for you enjoyment.  The north shore of Maui is my home, in the winter offering hugh surf to be respected and in the summer wonderful beaches to swim and dive.  Kihei which has all the condos and great beach access.  Kihei has a number of quality beaches within walking distance.  I do think Wailea/Makena has some of the most beautiful beaches, comparable to any where in the world. This is my friends daughter, she is 16 years old.  She enters races from Molokai to Oahu paddling, designs bathing suits and jewelry and races canoes.  Her jewelry has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated the swim suit issue.  Amazing talented girl.

This is pretty crazy, Short Sales in Wailea.  Short Sales are here beleive it or not!  The short sale craze really effects the bottom line of the regular real estate market.
